About the John Brooks Recovery Center

The John Brooks Recovery Center (JBRC) is a private not for profit corporation providing substance abuse treatment services to the residents of NJ, particularly Atlantic County, since 1969.

​

Currently operating at 4 locations; the Main Center, in Pleasantville provides Medication Assisted Therapy, MAT and three IOP programs for up to 750 adults. Our central admissions department as well as our administration offices are also located there. The Outpatient Center on Bacharach Boulevard in Atlantic City provides Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) and IOP programs for Atlantic City residents. Our residential programs for Men (90 beds) and Women (29 beds) are located in Atlantic City on Pacific and Tennessee Avenues.

Psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring, as well as HIV/ Hep-C screening, post test counseling and referrals are available to all of our clients. Recovery oriented Medication Assisted Therapy is integrated in all levels of care.

John H. Brooks

Born on Februray 26, 1936 in Atlantic City, John Brooks attended Atlantic City schools and received several degrees; general education, business administration and human resources from Rutgers University. John was a heroin addict and ex offender who became inspired to start a treatment facility while he was in prison for a drug related offense. In 1969 he founded NARCO, Inc. in a storefront near the St. Augustine Church in Atlantic City on Arctic Avenue. The group began treating drug and alcohol addiction. He served as Executive Director from 1969 to 1993. John Brooks passed away in December 2005.  The John Brooks Recovery Center has saved thousands of lives thanks in part to this drug-treatment pioneer.
